Weekend Wrap Oct. 24-26: Midwest Elite League, Bauer U17 Elite & Eastern Exposure Cup Champs Crowned
Temperatures continued to drop around North America during the ninth weekend of the 2025-26 youth hockey season, but that couldn’t cool down the action in some of the continent’s hotbeds as showcase season continued.
Soon, state champions and USA Hockey National Championship berths will be determined for some age groups in Minnesota and Massachusetts before the top players in those states start their high school and prep seasons. The weekend of Oct. 24-26 presented high school-aged players in those two states with more opportunities to make an impression on scouts before all attention turns to their school campaigns.
The Beantown Fall Classic, one of the most well-known and most-scouted Northeast showcases, got underway in Massachusetts on Thursday, Oct. 23, welcoming more than 100 American and Canadian 14U-18U teams and probably about that many junior and college scouts for a weekend of high-level competition. Meanwhile, the Upper Midwest HS Elite League Hockey Playoffs were held in the State of Hockey from Oct. 24-26.
The action wasn’t limited to high school-aged players in New England, however, as top 9U through 15O teams traveled to the Northeast for the Eastern Exposure Cup Oct. 24-26, while in British Columbia some top Canadian U17 Boys AAA and American Tier 1 Boys teams faced off at the Bauer U17 Elite Invite from Oct. 23-26.
Nearly 200 teams in the 9U through 15O age groups were in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island Oct. 24-26 to participate in the Eastern Exposure Cup. Games were played at 14 rinks across the three states. Our focus is on the 12U-15O divisions, which featured more than 100 teams representing some of the top USA Tier 1 Boys programs.
Each team was guaranteed three or four round-robin games Oct. 24 and 25, with playoff and consolation games starting later in the day on Saturday, Oct. 25. Semifinals and championship games were played Oct. 26.
More than 400 games were contested across all the age groups.
Most of the Eastern Exposure Cup venues have LiveBarn feeds for on-demand streaming of tournament games.

Upper Midwest HS Elite League Hockey Playoffs
The Upper Midwest High School Elite League was founded in 2002 and has since served as a developmental league for the top high school players in Minnesota and neighboring Midwest states, providing a high level of competition, more games and exposure to scouts from higher-level leagues as the participants prepare for their school seasons. It provides additional developmental opportunities through competitive games and is separate from the traditional and highly competitive Minnesota high school season.
For this year’s playoffs, regular-season champion APX (10-6-2) earned the top seed and opened play Oct. 24 in a quarterfinal matchup with eighth-seeded Team North Dakota (1-2-0) at New Hope Ice Arena.
All four quarterfinal games were scheduled for Friday evening in New Hope, with second-seeded The Base (10-7-1) facing seventh-seeded Team Wisconsin (4-12-2), No. 3 seed MSP Magazine (8-6-4) taking on No. 6 seed Twin Cities Orthopedics (5-12-1) and fourth-seeded TDS Transportation (8-8-2) facing off against No. 5 seed Spade Hockey (5-9-4).
The tournament was played at New Hope Ice Arena, and the action was streamed live on MNHockey.TV. The semifinals were at 1:30 and 4 p.m. ET Saturday, with the third-place game facing off at 10:30 a.m. ET Sunday and the championship clash following at 1 p.m. ET.
Fourth-seeded TDS Transportation defeated fifth-seeded Spade, 4-1, in the quarterfinals before upsetting top-seeded APX Saturday, 7-3, to set up Sunday’s championship game vs. The Base.
Mick Martalock staked TDS to a 1-0 lead in the title game midway through the first period, but Blake Dosan of The Base tied it before the end of the opening stanza. TDS regained the lead with a goal from Alexander Nicklin in the second period, and Whitaker Rewertz added the eventual game-winning goal in the final frame.
Dosan tallied his second of the game to help keep The Base alive, but Ethan Sundvall increased the TDS lead in the third and Chase Nadeau’s empty-net goal sealed the victory. The Base’s Joseph Klose made 50 saves in a tough losing effort, while TDS netminder Bryce Francisco stopped 44 shots to earn the 5-2 victory and the Founder’s Cup for his team.
