USA Hockey National Championship Hub 2025: Tier 1 Quarterfinal Berths at Stake

Updated April 3 at 3:15 p.m. EDT

This document will continue to be updated throughout the USA Hockey National Championships being held at various locations around the United States April 1-6.

It's finally here!

USA Hockey Nationals Week has arrived, and starting on Tuesday, April 1, more than 300 Youth and Girls hockey teams from around the United States began competing at various locations for national championships at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels.

There are 124 teams competing for Tier 1 championships, with another 208 playing for national titles in Tier 2 divisions. On the Youth side, the Tier 1 championships are divided into 13O, 14U, 15O, 16U and 18U age brackets, while Girls Tier 1 champs will be crowned in 14U, 16U and 19U divisions. The Youth Tier 2 championships feature 14U, 16U and 18U competition, while Tier 2 Girls compete for 14U, 16U and 19U titles.

There will be 200 Youth and 132 Girls teams hoping to skate their way to a national championship.

USA Hockey divides the United States into 12 Districts: Atlantic, Central, Mid-Am, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New England, New York, Northern Plains, Pacific, Rocky Mountain, and Southeastern. At the Tier 1 level, district tournaments are held in each region, with the champions automatically qualifying for Nationals. The remainder of the tournament fields, which are comprised of between 12 and 16 teams, are filled with highly ranked “at-large” teams. States with the highest USA Hockey enrollments get to send their state champions to compete for Tier 1 titles.

Tier 2 National Championship fields are comprised of state champions from various parts of the country, with the Youth divisions each divided into three separate tournaments (1A, 2A and 3A) based on various criteria, and the Girls age brackets divided into two (1A and 2A). In all, more than 20 National Champions will be crowned by USA Hockey.

Meanwhile, USA Hockey High School National Championships got underway March 26 and ran through March 30 in Irvine, Calif. High School Nationals are divided into 1A, 2A, 3A and Girls divisions, with 52 teams competing across the four divisions.

High School National Champions were crowned March 30 in all four divisions:

USA Hockey Tier 2 Nationals

Tier 2 national champions will be crowned in the Youth Division and the Girls Division at the 14U and 16U age levels, and there will be a Youth 18U Division and a Girls 19U Division as well. Various state champions as well as invited at-large teams compete in each Youth age group, with district champions and at-large invitees participating in the Girls tournaments. Each age group is further broken down into 1A, 2A and 3A divisions that are filled by teams based on the hockey enrollment in their states.

All of the Youth Division age groups have a 1A, 2A and 3A classification, while the Girls Division tournaments have 1A and 2A divisions.  Youth classifications have eight, 12 or 16 teams broken into pools of varying sizes, while Girls divisions can have either 12 teams competing in pools of six of 16 teams competing in pools of four.

Tier 2 National Championships are scheduled to begin April 2 and end on April 6. All of the games can be viewed online via USA Hockey TV.
